Robert Rauschenberg 1925 - 2008

Rauschenberg's collages will be one of those lasting influences on my work. He was able to make everything out of nothing, art out of other people's trash. To me, that is the definition of an artist- someone who is able to find beauty in all things.

He died at the age of 82 and left the world a far more beautiful place than he found it.

"Anything you do will be an abuse of somebody else's aesthetics. I think you're born an artist or not. I couldn't have learned it and I hope I never do because knowing more only encourages your limitations."

Make it Last All Night

A few photos from the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert last Sunday.
It was one fast and beautiful blur of rock & roll.

New Things, Current Events, blah blah etc.

I have...
a new job
new sunglasses
started reading Vonnegut
Tom Petty tickets for this weekend
a new one year lease
the desire to be anywhere that's not Ohio and or specifically Columbus
art in progress
two more months of summer to enjoy.

Also today I learned that it's beneficial to put your pillows in a hot dryer to kill dust mites and things. I had no idea.

Such Eloquent Graffiti

I went to the Iron & Wine concert at the Newport Music Hall last night. I'm not a particularly religious person, but this concert was ethereal... a southern gospel. Truly one of the most beautiful and perfect moments of my life. I'm not sure what it is about his music that is so alluring, but it's genuine. It reminds me of home. And catching lightening bugs in peanut butter jars. Watering the sunflowers with grass stuck to my feet.

The audience was quiet while he played. Sam seemed so gracious that everyone was there just to love and enjoy his music. I tried not to get carried away taking photos, but sometimes they help me to remember.

Oh Sam Beam, how I dearly love your music.
